Family Planning

pregnant7Every child should be a wanted child.  To this end a full range of services is provided, including fitting of coils.  Emergency contraception is also available through any of the Doctors & Practice Nurse.  Please ask for same day appointment.

Antenatal

These are held every week usually on a Monday afternoon by appointment.  The clinic is run by the Community Midwife.

Postnatal

Postnatal checks are undertaken by appointment with the doctors. 

Cervical Smear Tests

These are recommended for all women between 25 and 64 years.  We recommend that these checks be carried out a three yearly intervals between the ages of 25 – 50 years and five yearly between 50 – 65 years.  For older women, advice is available on the menopause and the prevention of osteoporosis (thinning of the bones).

Breast Screening

These are offered to all women aged between 50 – 65 yrs every 3 years by invitation or by telephoning the Breast Screen Office on 573999.

Children’s Vaccinations

vaccination1A weekly baby clinic is held on Thursday Afternoon from 1:30 – 3:00 pm.  Child development checks are carried out at six weeks and eight months by appointment.

Immunisation protection is available against Diphtheria, Tetanus, Poliomyelitis, Whooping Cough, Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Meningitis C, Hib and Pneumococcal.  These are carried out by the Practice Nurse by appointment on a Thursday afternoon from 1:30 – 3:00 pm. 

Teenagers

We offer confidential treatment to all our teenagers including contraceptive advice.

Smoking cessation

If you would like help to stop smoking please make an appointment to see the Practice Nurse.

Adult Vaccinations

If routine vaccinations and travel immunisations are required, please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse.  Please note some travel immunisations need to be given at least 4 weeks prior to the start of your holiday to be effective. It is advisable to arrange your appointment 3 months in advance of your travel to discuss requirements.

High Blood Pressure

This is usually silent and produces no symptoms until a disaster happens.  We recommend at least three-yearly blood pressure screening, with follow-up if high blood pressure is found

For Men

All men can attend for a health check.  This includes advice on testicular self-examination, diet, exercise, alcohol intake, blood pressure, urine and weight checks.  If you have not had one, please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse.  If you have a family history of heart disease or stroke we will also check your cholesterol level and advise you.

For Women

All women can attend for a health check. This includes advice on cervical smears, menopausal advice, contraception, diet, exercise, alcohol intake, blood pressure, urine and weight checks if you have not had one, please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse.  If you have a family history of heart disease or stroke we will also check your cholesterol level and advise you. 

Diabetic/Asthma/COPD/Heart Care clinics

Clinics are held to promote good health and prevent complications for our patients with chronic diseases.  Please attend your check when contacted by the practice as it is only by working together that we can ensure your condition is managed effectively.

Macmillan Gold Standards

The Practice uses this framework to support Patients and Carers with end of life disease.  A register of patients requiring supportive care is used at regular team meetings to improve the assessment of Patients with Carers needs and to promote good communication between all professionals involved.

Influenza Immunisations

We offer this service, ordinarily in October – December, for both patients aged 65 and over and patients under 65 who have certain medical conditions.  For further information please ask a member of staff.

ECG

The practice provides ECGs during normal surgery time.  If appropriate a GP will suggest an appointment for an ECG with the nurse.

Spirometry

The practice nurses provide spirometry and reversibility for patients with breathing problems such as asthma or COPD.  They will advice you if spirometry is required when you attend for your annual respiratory check.
